The Great Pyramids of Giza

Kheops-Pyramid

The Great Pyramids of Giza are considered as wonders of the ancient world. Two of the pyramids were built under the orders of the Egyptian Pharaoh Sneferu. Khufu, another Pharaoh, built another pyramid later. Khufu’s Pyramid is known the Great Pyramid.
There are speculations on who and how the Pyramids of Giza were built, especially the Great Pyramid. Some people believe that slaves were used to build Khufu’s Pyramid. Some believe that the slaves were Hebrews mentioned in the Book of Exodus of the Bible. However, there is no evidence to support this belief.

Some people may go so far that due to the size and shape of the pyramids, intelligent beings from other planets helped with the construction of the Pyramids as the Egyptians would not have been highly intelligent and technical enough to build the pyramids themselves. They believe that it was impossible to transport the heavy stones for building the pyramids with the number of trees the Egyptians had for logs and to move the heavy materials to large height.

Zecharia SItchin, a person who believes in the existence ancient astronauts from outer space, interpreted some ancient Sumerian text as aliens from the planet Anunnaki which exploded came to earth to start the human race to mine gold for them and proposed the theory that the pyramids were landing lights for spacecrafts from the planet. He even claims that in 1837, Colonel Richard Howard Vyse faked the hieroglyphics (ancient Egyptian writing) on Khufu’s pyramid which include the name Khufu. However, Martin Stower refuted this theory saying that even Vyse’s assistant Samuel Birth couldn’t have faked the writings represented by quarry marks as the marks contained something even the experts at the time couldn’t understand. Even if Vyse had actually faked the writings it does not disprove Khufu as the pharoah when the pyramid was built. In fact, the Egyptians themselves built the pyramids and there was nothing supernatural or mysterious in the method they employed to do so. They used stones and tools made of copper to hew the pyramid blocks. The blocks were transported on cedar sleds and not vehicles with wheels. Ramps were used to move the blocks up. As one stage of the pyramid was completed, the ramps were removed and new ones were placed on the new stage. One hundred thousand Egyptians were hired to construct Khufu’s pyramid. Like construction workers in today’s world, they turned out for work and was paid for their efforts The project of building the pyramid created work for the unemployed in Egypt. Some believe that it took around 20 years to complete building a pyramid.
